Paragraphs, lists and headings everything
A webpage is like a tree
You see: the tree in it's full glory, with the spring sun slanting behind.
The browser sees: a bare tree bearing the fruits of paragraphs, lists and headings (the structure), plus some seasonal instructions on what these should look like (the presentation).
Therefore you have two design decisions to think about: the shape (structure) and the look and feel (presentation).
It helps to think about webpages as a collection of paragraphs, lists and headings.
Browsers think of webpages as a bunch of nested boxes.
- A webpage, which contains…
- Paragraphs, lists and headings, which contain…
- Text, images and links.
It's a safe bet to make sure all your content goes into a paragraphs, lists or heading. Most navigation menus, for example, are really well-styled lists.
